What this module is about

Module 1 is where you learn to spot where AI and automation can genuinely help in your workplace — and to make the case for it with evidence rather than hype. Over five units you will build the vocabulary, the judgement, and the analytical tools to identify a real opportunity in your own role and argue for it credibly.

How the module is structured

The module runs across five units, plus a short survey at the end:

• Unit 1 — AI & Automation Foundations in the Workplace — build a precise, shared vocabulary and a clear sense of what today's AI can and cannot do.
• Unit 2 — The Demo Lab — watch real no-code and code-based AI workflows in action, and learn to read what is happening under the hood.
• Unit 3 — Identifying AI Opportunities — find candidate processes in your own role and score them with a structured suitability framework.
• Unit 4 — Legal & Compliance Foundations — the data-protection, equality, and ethics essentials for judging whether a project is viable and responsible.
• Unit 5 — Building the Business Case — quantify the value and return, then write a structured business case for your strongest opportunity.

How you will use the workbook

• Each lesson points you to a specific activity or section in the workbook.
• Complete each activity as you reach it — do not leave them all to the end.
• By the final unit, your workbook holds everything you need to write your business case.
